Version Review
This version of Blox is focused on code maintenance, a few bug fixes and the introduction of Blox Tools. After upgrading, you will see a “Tools” link in the Blox admin menu. See the screenshot below.
Currently, the only tool is “System Info”. This allows you to easily view and download all of your website’s system information. While Blox has been carefully built to play nice with all Genesis themes and other third party plugins, occasionally conflicts do arise. Should you need to submit a support ticket, including this information helps us to quickly diagnose any issues. Blox aside, this utility can also be useful for identifying technical settings not visible in the WordPress admin, such as your PHP and MySQL versions. Below is an abridged look at the system info for this website.
Blox Tools will ultimately house more utilities such as import/export for global blocks. Keep an eye out for additions in future releases.
WPML Support
Our goal is to make Blox as accessible as possible, both with respect to language and disability. We are currently working with The WordPress Multilingual Plugin to ensure Blox is 100% compatible with the plugin. The WPML team provided an initial set of tweaks which have been implemented in version 1.2.0. As of this post, Blox is waiting on a second review.
Maintenance & Bug Fixes
Version 1.2.o also comes with a variety of code improvements and bug fixes. The Blox licensing and automatic upgrading system is run using Easy Digital Downloads, which is a fabulous framework for anyone looking to sell digital content. Blox now includes version 1.6.5 of the EDD updater class, which addresses a few rare, but important, updating issues. Additional fixes include:
- Fixed anonymous functions that were causing issues in PHP 5.2. Blox is now 100% compatible with PHP 5.2+, though PHP 5.5+ is recommended.
- Fixed Visibility by Role bug.
- Fixed broken links in hook error messages.
- Fixed error message in position admin columns when the current hook is disabled.
Conclusion
Thank you for checking out Blox. Version 1.2.0 1.2.1 is up and available to download/purchase. If you are already using Blox, it is highly recommended that you upgrade today due to the new EDD updater class and additional bug fixes. And as always, if you have any feature requests, please let us know.
Update: Following the release of version 1.2.0, some users discovered a conflict with other plugins that were also using the new EDD updater class. The fix was very straight forward and version 1.2.1 was released. Please upgrade to this new version to avoid potential issues. All new purchases of Blox will automatically receive version 1.2.1.
